Deep Stops: Changing the Ascent Strategy

The most important part of any dive is the ascent. Putting together a safe ascent strategy should be part of every diving plan. One characteristic of this ascent strategy should be how to slow down our ascent and allow for efficient off-gassing of the inert gas that has entered our tissues. Bouyancy Class for S.T.A.R.S

On July 5, 2009, I conducted a buoyancy course at Haigh Quarry in Kankakee, IL. The proceeds from this course were donated to ST.A.R.S. International. S.T.A.R.S is a charity that uses scuba diving to help at-risk youth re-focus and get direction in their lives. (more…)

Loaded Gun Effect: Training with Deco Bottles and Gasses

As every good scuba diving instructor should do, I continually look for ways to improve my classes. Not just in presentation, knowledge, but also in safety. Over the past year, one of the things I have thought about changing in my technical diving class is how many bottles to introduce students to as well as what gasses to use for training.
