As we ring in 2011, I hope everyone had a safe and fun New Years celebration. With the new year starting, everyone always has New Years resolutions. During my new year celebration, I was talking with someone who was already a certified diver, but hasn’t dove for quite a while. One of his new year resolutions was to get caught up and go diving in 2011. This got me thinking about what I want to do, diving wise, next year. Below is a list of things that I would like to do in 2011.
- More technical dives – Now that I found a cheaper supplier for helium, I plan on doing more tech dives. In 2011, I only did 14 total tech dives. With none being below 200 feet. In 2011, I’d like to do about twice as many tech dives and to do a few more 200+ foot dives.
- Do a dive trip – Last year, I was able to go to Turks and Caicos for some diving. This year, I’d like to do another warm water dive. Perfectibility someplace where I can get some tech diving done as well.
- New single tank wing- I need to update much of my equipment. I’d like to get rid of my Dive Rite Rec wing and get either a DSS or Halcyon single tank wing.
- Get the fill station built – I picked up some bank bottles. Now I need to get the filling area more organized.
- New dry suit – My dry suit has almost 1000 dives on it. I need to put a new neck seal on it as well as new socks. Instead of fixing my current suit, I’d like to buy a new suit and demote my current suit to a backup suit.
- Dive with some old friends – There are a few people that I haven’t dove with in quite some time. I’d like to change that.
Please share your plans for 2011.

I too spend this time of year setting goals for 2011. With respect to diving, my goals for 2011 include:
– Successfully complete TDI Advanced Wreck
– More technical dives, both wreck penetration and decompression. Shooting for at least a dozen decompression dives and an equal number of wreck penetration dives. More if possible.
- Complete at least 20 safe wreck dives, also more if possible.
- Focus on longer, higher quality dives vs. number of logged dives.
Sounds like some great goals to shoot for Jim. You should have a lot of diving fun in 2011.
yeah….right….
