Deep Stops: Changing the Ascent Strategy

The most important part of any dive is the ascent. Putting together a safe ascent strategy should be part of every diving plan. One characteristic of this ascent strategy should be how to slow down our ascent and allow for efficient off-gassing of the inert gas that has entered our tissues. This post will discuss deep stops and their benefits. [Read more...]

The author argues that dive computers can make scuba diving safer. The article is a good one about the benefits of dive computers to recreational scuba divers. However, as I read through the article, the author failed to discuss ascent strategies and general decompression knowledge to make computer diving safer. The article is called Diving Computers Make Diving Safer. [Read more...]

In the previous articles, we discussed some strategies for better dive planning. In this article, we will discuss forming an ascent strategy so that we can safely put into practice what we discussed previously.

First, let us briefly discuss a couple common decompression models. In order to safely utilize the strategies I have discussed previously, you must have a basic understanding of decompression theory. There are two models that most decompression software and tables use. The first model is the dissolved gas phase. This model has it’s roots with Haldane and Buhlman. [Read more...]
