The open water course is the first step to becoming a scuba diver. This is where you will learn the skills and knowledge to be safe and have fun while diving. This program is divided into three sessions. Classroom, confined water, and open water sessions.
The classroom session is where you will learn the basic principles of diving. This will include safe diving principles, diving physics, dive planning, team awareness and environmental concerns. You will learn how scuba equipment works and how to assemble it. The classroom lessons are followed by confined water sessions. This is where you will put into practice the principles learned in the classroom sessions and learn the skills required for safe diving. Once you have mastered the fundamental skills of recreational diving, you will progress into the open water session. During the open water session, you will demonstrate mastery of diving skills and knowledge in a real open water environment. There is a minimum of four open water dives required. However, many students have found that more time in the water during class is beneficial. My open water sessions average six to eight dives before certification is issued. It is not uncommon for my open water sessions to reach six or more hours of total in water time.
The Open Water course is a performanced based course. This means that you will only progress through the course after you have completely mastered the skills/knowledge in the previous session. Students are strongly encouraged to avoid commiting to timelines to complete certification. Instead, students should focus on mastering the material.
Once you have completed the Open Water course, you will have the confidence and comfort to complete recreational level dives without the guidence of a diving professional. This course is very comprehensive and is designed to create great divers. If you are up to the challenge, then contact me for more information.
The tuition for this class is $800 and includes the course materials and certification fees. Equipment rental and quarry entry fee is not included. Students must provide their own mask, fins, boots, and snorkel.
Due to the nature of performanced based courses, this course is by appointment or as a private/semi-private course.
